Graduate student Greg Schroeder is developing a taxonomic field key and ecological handbook for the tunicate species of the Scotia Arc region. During the biannual Antarctic Marine Living Resources fish stock assessment cruise in 2001 and 2003, and the ICEFISH 2004 cruise from Chile to South Africa, we opportunistically collected and quantified invertebrates captured as bycatch during trawls for fish specimens. primary taxa were sponges, seastars and tunicates; Greg is using the data, specimens, and the historical literature to build a field guide to tunicates that can be used on future cruises to this region.
