My areas of interest are animal communities living in the benthic (bottom) muds and sands of marine offshore and nearshore sediments, estuaries, and streams and rivers; especially crustaceans and molluscs (clams and snails), their taxonomy, natural history, and ecology. Also, I work with terrestrial plant systems and their conservation, especially our local coastal dunes. All of these marine, freshwater and terrestrial habitats in Monterey County have been mildly to severely altered from their natural state by human disturbance, e.g. pollution, urbanization, and invasive weeds. We study these disturbances, and work to restore damage.
